How Construction Meets AI at Green Earth Consulting

Every great company starts with a spark—a moment when the right people and the right ideas come together at exactly the right time. For Green Earth Consulting, that spark happened when decades of hands-on construction experience met the cutting edge of modern technology. This isn't just a story about software; it's a story about the evolution of grit, the power of mentorship, and the necessity of bridging the gap between the dirt and the data.

Here is the story of how our founders, Chad Bilotta and Matteo Curioni, teamed up to bring the construction industry into the future.

The veteran and the technologist

The story of Green Earth Consulting begins at Moss & Associates, where Chad Bilotta was working as a manager tasked with building a new civil department. Enter Matteo Curioni, a young professional fresh out of college who landed an interview with Chad through a mutual connection.

Their working dynamic was entirely unique from day one:

The Veteran:

Chad Bilotta was an "old school dirt person" with 25 years of experience who knew exactly how to run heavy equipment and build 3D models. However, he admitted that he had only used Excel once in his entire career up to that point.

The Technologist:

Matteo Curioni, a self-described "nerd type," brought a fresh, highly technical perspective to the table.

The Dynamic:

Bilotta became Curioni's first manager and mentor, affectionately referring to the younger man as his "work son".

They quickly discovered they made a highly effective team. Bilotta would come up with operational plans and process improvements, and Curioni had the software skills to formulate, structure, and execute those plans.

The AI epiphany

The true turning point for the duo occurred when Curioni started seeing the massive potential of Artificial Intelligence. He brought ChatGPT into Bilotta's office and explained that this new technology could automate many of the tasks they were currently doing manually.

Bilotta, although skeptical at first, recognized that AI was the undeniable wave of the future for their industry, but they faced a major roadblock. At the time, their employer viewed AI as a significant risk and heavily restricted its use to prevent employees from mishandling company data.

Taking the leap

Realizing that this technological shift was too important to ignore, Curioni made the bold decision to leave Moss to pursue AI full-time. He dedicated himself to the craft, taking classes and earning certifications in Artificial Intelligence.

Shortly after, the two reconnected. While Bilotta initially thought he would just be helping his former colleague get a new business off the ground, their conversations quickly evolved into a realization that they needed to partner up.

The birth of Green Earth Consulting

Bilotta and Curioni saw a massive opportunity to use their combined backgrounds to solve one of the construction industry's oldest problems: the siloed disconnect between field operations and the estimating office.

They didn’t just want to provide tools; they wanted to build a partnership rooted in a philosophy that shapes every client engagement. Green Earth Consulting was born to bridge the gap between field operations and the office. By combining Bilotta’s 25 years of on-site experience with Curioni’s expertise in AI and modern software, we provide contractors with the custom systems necessary to make their estimates more accurate, current, and profitable.

Our Philosophy: Bid Sharper, Build Smarter, Run Leaner

At the heart of every partnership we form is a simple, three-part promise: Bid Sharper, Build Smarter, Run Leaner. This isn’t just corporate jargon; it’s a framework derived from being in the trenches.

To Bid Sharper means moving away from the dangerous industry standard of relying on gut feelings and instead leveraging data-backed pricing and constructability insights. When you stop guessing, you start winning more profitable work.

Build Smarter refers to the integration of technology that actually sticks. Many contractors make the mistake of implementing software before fixing the underlying broken workflow, which only makes the mess happen faster. We optimize the workflow first, ensuring that when we do introduce tech, it supports the crew in the dirt.

Finally, Run Leaner is about eliminating the administrative friction and manual paperwork that slows down production. We believe your teams should be focused on moving dirt, not filling out forms.

Solving the industry’s toughest problems

The construction industry is filled with hardworking people bogged down by outdated processes. One of the primary issues we solve is the siloed disconnect between field operations and the estimating office.

Too often, the people bidding the work have no real-time visibility into the realities of the job site. This leads to inaccurate cost projections and lost margins. By implementing automated workflows, we connect field logs directly to office systems, ensuring that data flows seamlessly and decisions are made based on reality, not assumptions.

A comprehensive suite of services

To facilitate this transformation, we offer a range of specialized services tailored to the needs of civil and solar contractors:

  1. Estimating & Bidding: On-demand support to clear bidding backlogs and secure highly accurate, profitable civil and solar bids using data-backed insights.

  2. Strategic Planning: We provide operational roadmaps, financial modeling, and KPI dashboards to help contractors scale their volume without breaking their business.

  3. Sitework Consultation: Direct access to 25+ years of field experience in solving problems related to heavy excavation, utilities, and complex solar operations.

  4. Process Efficiency: Custom workflows designed to cut manual tracking and automate cost projections from the field to the office.

  5. AI Agents & Automation: We engineer custom AI tools tailored to your specific workflows—handling daily safety briefings, scheduling, and documentation at scale.

Working in the trenches

We built Green Earth Consulting to be the partner we wished we had years ago.

As a company, we reject the traditional drop-in and leave consulting model, where a consultant hands over a binder of recommendations and walks away. That model doesn't work for construction. Instead, we take an embedded approach.

We stay in the trenches with our clients—providing live support, upgrading AI tools, and refining workflows until the system runs like a well-oiled machine. True transformation requires partnership, discipline, and a willingness to get your hands dirty alongside your clients.
